SCRIPS are certificates that St. Joseph purchases locally, and also through a national SCRIP company. The certificates are sold to customers (you & me) at face value and are used the same as cash. How do SCRIPS benefit St. Joseph? When the SCRIPS are initially purchased the parish & school receives a discount and when the SCRIP is resold to you & me at face value the school makes a profit. For example: when a quantity of ten $10 Butcher Block Certificates they receive a 5% discount; St. Joseph pays $95 for $100 worth of certificates. The parish & school makes a $5 profit, but does not recoup this profit until the SCRIP is sold.
Over 40 local and national businesses offer St. Joseph discounts ranging from 5% to 15% for items that most people use on a regular basis: groceries, gas, restaurants, home maintenance, clothing, yard maintenance, propane, and prescriptions. The profits that are made on the sale of SCRIPS are used for school or parish maintenance.
Please review the SCRIP business listing. You will be surprised to see how many places you already shop. Plan ahead: call your order in early - it will be waiting for you after Mass, at the School office, or at the Parish office. SCRIPS also make great gifts.
