Following is a short description for each of the duties.
Altar Servers:
Altar Servers are responsible for assisting the priest during Mass. Altar Serving is open to all boys starting in the 3rd grade. Training will be provided and will typically happen on a monthly or by monthly basis. Typically, there are at least 3 Altar Servers scheduled at each Mass. Experienced Servers assist the lesser experienced Servers in Mass procedures and execution of their duties.
Gift Bearers:
Gift bearers are responsible for taking up of the gifts and present them to either Father or to the Deacon. It is a very uncomplicated ministry but a very necessary one. You are representing the parish community by bringing the gifts forward to be prepared for consecration.
Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist:
Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist have a very important role in the church. They are responsible for taking care of the Body and Blood of Jesus and ministering Him to the faithful during Mass. Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist will need to be commissioned and approved by the Diocese of Bismarck and then trained by a Deacon. Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist must be confirmed members of the Church.
Lectors (Readers):
Lector duties involve reading the readings for the day. There is the option of reading at weekend Masses or daily Masses. In the case that there is no deacon present, the reader would also read the prayers of the faithful for the day. Lectors should be able to speak clearly and at a good volume.
Weekend Ushers:
Weekend ushers are in charge of Mass set-up (preparing the vessels, lighting candles, taking the gifts to the back), seating of guests, taking up the collection, securing the collection, handing out bulletins, putting vessels away after Mass, and cleaning up after Mass. Training will be provided. Weekend ushers work in teams and are scheduled on the liturgical ministers schedule.
Mass Greeters:
Mass Greeters duties are to be the hospitality at weekend Masses. They are to arrive about 20-30 minutes before Mass and greet people as they are entering the church. Mass greeters should dress in their "Sunday Best" and be ready to bring their smiles.
Daily Sacristans:
Daily Sacristans are in charge of Mass set-up, assisting the priest with Mass (i.e. holding the book of prayers for opening and closing prayer, altar preparation for the Eucharist ect.), putting vessels away after Mass and possibly other duties that the priest may need.
